The AMC 8, a math competition offered through the Mathematical Association of America, is a FUN event, as well as a serious math competition. Students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades are encouraged to take the test. Math-talented students in the 5th grade may also consider this as an above-level opportunity, as there is no lower age limit.
Project MEGSSS is offering a masterclass to prepare for the AMC 8 competition. It will be held on the three Sunday afternoons prior to the competition: October 27, November 3, and November 10, 2019. All classes will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. at Maryville University. Students are encouraged to attend all three classes. Our masterclasses are offered for both introductory and advanced competitors, based on age and mathematics experience. (Students will be screened and placed in the appropriate class based on the information you provide below.) Dr. Doug Hunt, a Project MEGSSS faculty member, will be running these classes, supported by our staff and student volunteers. The cost to attend all three masterclasses is $100.
Project MEGSSS is proud to sponsor an open AMC 8 competition for the St. Louis region, in cooperation with Maryville University. Students in the 8th grade or below are eligible to sit for this competition if they do not have the opportunity to take it at their school. This competition will be held from 2 - 3 PM on November 17, at Maryville University. The cost to attend the competition is $25.
A student may register for either or both offerings (e.g. masterclasses and/or competition), below.
Financial assistance is available; please don't hesitate to apply if finances would prevent your child from attending. In particular, if your family is eligible for federal lunch programs or has an income at that level, substantial assistance is available.
