2017 AMC 8 Open Competition
Project MEGSSS, in cooperation with Maryville University, is proud to sponsor an Open AMC 8 Opportunity in the St. Louis Region on Sunday, November 19, from 2-3 p.m.
The AMC 8, a math contest sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America, is a FUN event, but is also a serious math contest that runs 40 minutes. Students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades are encouraged to take the test. Math-talented students in the 5th grade may also consider this, as there is no lower age limit.
High scoring students will be invited to take the AMC 10. Student must be under 14.5 years on the day of the contest.
PLEASE NOTE: If your student is participating in the AMC 8 at their school, they are NOT eligible to participate in this event. They may still register for masterclasses HERE. Masterclasses will held on the three Sundays prior to the AMC 8 math competition. Dr. Doug Hunt, a Project MEGSSS faculty member, will be running these classes, supported by our staff and student volunteers. Masterclasses will be $90 and the AMC competition, $20. Masterclasses will be held on Sundays, October 29, November 5, and November 12 2016 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Maryville University. Students will be screened and placed in the entry-level or advanced classes based on grade level and previous experience with competitions. Cost is $90.
Financial assistance is available; please don't hesitate to apply if finances would prevent your child from attending. In particular, if your family is eligible for federal lunch programs or has an income at that level, substantial assistance is available.
